Body length is equal to hookshank length. | 5 | Tie in the hackle at the ½ hookshank point. | 6 | Tie in a divided poly-pro wing. | 7 | Wrap hackle 2 wraps behind wing, then wrap forward with one wrap between wings and to one eye length behind hook eye. | 8 | Tie in Hackle and cut off excess. | 9 | Whip-finish an extra small head. | 10 | Cut a small “V” in the hackle on the bottom of the fly. | 11 | Optional, the of use head cement. | Notes: | | To make a more realistic looking fly taper the Olive 1/32” Round Wrightway Foam Post by using a cigarette lighter flame. Back the body close to the blue part of the flame, e.g., the body does not have to be “in” the flame. Use extreme care and not burn the end. When the foam starts to melt, “roll” the foam between your thumb and finger to make the taper to your satisfaction. By cutting a “V” in the hackle this allows the fly to ride more naturally on the water. To make it ride even lower in the film, e.g. a “struggling” emerger cut the hackle flat on the bottom. Leave enough of the hackle stubs to simulate the thorax. |
