Tying Instruction

1

Start thread behind hook eye and wrap thread base to above hook barb.

2

Dub a tapered body forward to one eye length behind the hook eye.

3

Return the thread to the 1/4 hookshank point.

4

Tie in the hackle.

5

Tie in the wing material. The notch of the “V” should line up with the end of the body.

6

Tie in the leg material, 1 per side. Center the leg material on the side of the wing.

7

Wrap the hackle a minimum of 3 wraps and tie in and cut off excess.

8

Whip-finish using a minimum of wraps.

9

Cut the point of the wing material even with the hook point.

This creates the head, e.g., Elk Hair Caddis style.

10

Cut the rear legs 1 ½ times the wing length and the front legs equal to the wing length.

11

Cut a “V” in the bottom of the hackle so the fly will float lower in the water.

For a “Slow Water Caddis” pattern trim the hackle flat on the bottom.
