The notch of the “V” should line up with the end of the body. | 6 | Tie in the leg material, 1 per side. Center the leg material on the side of the wing. | 7 | Wrap the hackle a minimum of 3 wraps and tie in and cut off excess. | 8 | Whip-finish using a minimum of wraps. | 9 | Cut the point of the wing material even with the hook point. This creates the head, e.g., Elk Hair Caddis style. | 10 | Cut the rear legs 1 ½ times the wing length and the front legs equal to the wing length. | 11 | Cut a “V” in the bottom of the hackle so the fly will float lower in the water. For a “Slow Water Caddis” pattern trim the hackle flat on the bottom. |
